Today is 40 weeks since Maggie first was admitted to the hospital.

In the Bible, the number 40 is a period of waiting for something to happen. For example, it rained for 40 days and 40 nights, the Israelites were in the wilderness for 40 years, Moses was on the mountain for 40 days until he got the 10 commandments.

We’ve been in a period of waiting during the last 40 weeks. Waiting for Maggie’s brain to heal, waiting for her to wake up, waiting for the next step for her, waiting for a miracle- knowing the miracle is that she’s alive and fighting.

I’ve been reflecting on the waiting process lately. As I googled “waiting”, this popped up- “The Bible suggests that waiting is an opportunity to live on what is known to be true about God, even when it’s not clear what’s true about life.”
Here’s a few things I know to be true about God:

He is faithful: Lamentations 3:22-23 The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

He cares for us: I Peter 5:7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

He is working: James 1: 2-4 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

I can’t pretend to know what the rest of this road looks like. I keep saying that it would be easier to do this if there was a road map. But, I never expected our lives to be changed in an instant either, so maybe it’s better to take it one day at a time. I have learned a lot about trust and faith in the past 40 days. I have also watched the Lord move in our lives and answer so many prayers for us. I know He will continue to watch over her and us in the next steps!
