Today is 6 months since Maggie was admitted to Strong Memorial. While it’s just another day, it’s still 1/2 year since we’ve been here. We didn’t know at the beginning how long this would last. Many of the people that we knew that had bacterial meningitis were in comas for two weeks. That seemed like a long time at that point. And now here we are six months later.
There’s been a lot of emotions the last two weeks. We are so thankful but Maggie has improved as much as she has. But I would be lying if I said that we were not sad and emotional that she won’t be starting her sophmore year of college with her friends. Or spending the summer doing all the fun things. Or celebrating birthdays and engagements. Or doing the school shopping with Seth and Bekah.
We miss her. I think that about sums it all up.
In the middle of the hard moments, we get sweet messages or cards or reminders that we are not alone in this. And we are so very thankful for all of it.
I love the stories that I’ve gotten to hear about Maggie. I love that four of her friends from three different areas of her lives spent a weekend together. That’s so special to me.
God is and will continue to be faithful. We know this and continue to trust that He cares for Maggie and us no matter what situation we find ourselves in.
Thursday:
Maggie continues to improve after her infections.
She's done with one antibiotic and will finish the other in 3 days.
Yesterday and today she did the standing machine. Yesterday she did fantastic with it. Today she was a bit more wobbly. But JP was entertaining us with bad jokes and she looked straight at him with that side eye we all know so well. Everyone was laughing.
We went outside yesterday with Irene for 30 min. It's hot and humid but we found a shady place. Today we're planning to do the same.
Pepper brought her clips for her hair 💜 it's growing and a bit out of control!
There's no immediate plan to return her to rehab.
Love you all!
